JBA HAS DEVELOPED A FLOOD EVENT FOOTPRINT OF THE OCTOBER 2015 SOUTH CAROLINA FLOODING. THE DATA COMPRISES AN EVENT MAP OF INDICATIVE FLOOD DEPTHS AND RISK SCORES ON A 30M GRID.
Extremely heavy rainfall between 29 September and 6 October caused extensive flooding in large parts of South Carolina and south eastern areas of North Carolina. Rainfall peaked on 3 October when Charleston International Airport saw 11.4 inches (290mm) fall in 24 hours. Near Boone Hall, a total of 24.2 inches (615mm) had fallen by 4 October.
Estimated costs are likely in excess of $1 billion.
This footprint is designed for re/insurance companies to examine their aggregate exposure and estimate their past / present accumulation against the event.
Geographical scope
The footprint extends north along the US east coast from Beaufort, South Carolina to Jacksonville, North Carolina. Areas particularly badly affected include Columbia, Sumter, Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Many rivers in the area overtopped or breached levees and at least 13 dams failed.
